Virgil G. Geister

Died Aug. 1, 2018


Virgil Glen Geister, 88, of Lewiston, formerly of Decker, went home to be with his Lord Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2018, with loving family by his side in Hillman.

He was born Dec. 4, 1929, in Decker, son of the late Duane and Ines (Whale) Geister. Virgil married Pearl Hook March 4, 1950, in Marlette. He farmed with his father growing up and then owned his own farm, where they raised their family. Virgil was a member of Mio Methodist Church. He loved spending time with family and friends, hunting, snowmobiling, riding dirt bikes and cutting wood in his free time.

Virgil is survived by his son, Gary (Linda) Geister; daughter, Pam (Rick) Handrich; daughter-in-law, Alice Geister; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Gwen Grout and Carol (Wayne) Hazen; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl; one son, Larry Geister; his stepmother, Edna Geister; one brother, Carl; sister-in-law, Mary Geister; one brother-in-law, Ted Grout; and one sister, Wanda and her husband Jack Johnson.

The family received friends from 2-8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 5, 2018, at Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette and 10 a.m. until the time of the service at Shabbona United Methodist Church on Monday. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 6, at Shabbona United Methodist Church, 4455 Decker Rd., Decker, MI 48426, with Pastor David Grout officiating. Burial will take place at Novesta Township Cemetery in Cass City.
