Viola D. "Johnie" (Johnson) Money

Died July 19, 2018

Viola Dawn “Johnie” (Johnson) Money, 90, passed away at her home in Ocala, Fla., on July 19, 2018.

She was born Nov. 18, 1927, in Flint. She attended both Mio AuSable Schools as well as Fairview and graduated in Mio. In later years she attended classes at Kirtland Community College, Roscommon.

After World War II ended, Johnie married Jack Arden Money, who had served in the Navy, and they raised six children together until his early death in a work accident at the age of 35. Since that time, she has been both mother and father to her children. Johnie served as a social worker in Michigan and Florida. She was a member of Mio United Methodist Church for many years and later a member of Ocklawaha UMC and St. Paul’s UMC in Florida. She enjoyed painting, drawing and reading. She believed in honesty and loyalty, as evidenced by her long-term friendships with people she had met as early as kindergarten. Johnie believed our mission in life is to help our fellow man, which she showed through the support of many charities both locally and globally.

Johnie's beloved mother, Mabel Rena Stewart Johnson, preceded her in death, as did both her brother and her sister.

She is survived by her children, Gary (Diane) Money of Northport, Kelli (Greg) Money Huff of Ocala, Fla., Jill (Allan) Money Sims of Ocala, Fla., Shelley Money (Jim Webster) of Anaheim, Calif., Marty (Mia) Money of Interlochen and Glenn Money of Beulah. She also leaves many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Johnie loved well and was well-loved.

The memorial service is planned for Nov. 17, 2018, at 1 p.m. at Mio United Methodist Church.
