Two dead in head-on collision

MIO — A two-car accident Sept. 15 resulted in the deaths of 71-year-old Thomas Bialek and 50-year-old Michelle Devoll, both of Luzerne. Four other occupants were injured as a result of the accident, which occurred on M-33 north of Mio near James Drive in Big Creek Township.

Oscoda County Sheriff Kevin Grace said the accident occurred when a northbound Ford Escape crossed into the path of a southbound Dodge Pickup for unknown reasons at approximately 2:35 p.m.

EMS transported four occupants from the Dodge pickup to Munson Healthcare Grayling Hospital for incapacitating injuries, according to a press release from the sheriff’s department. The two occupants of the Ford Escape were pronounced dead on the scene.

The Oscoda County Sheriff’s Department, Oscoda County EMS and Tri-Town Fire Department responded to calls and later called for assistance from the Michigan State Police Alpena Post to help with the investigation of the accident.
