The Easter Bunny is coming to Oscoda County

OSCODA COUNTY — Prepare the baskets and bunny ears — the Easter Bunny is going to be making stops in the county throughout the next two weeks and the Oscoda County Herald has the inside information about where he’ll be and when.

The first chance residents will have to pick up the Easter Bunny’s candy-filled capsules will be April 13 at the Luzerne American Legion. This long-standing Easter event has been an annual occurrence in the county for more than 20 years. There will be more than 1,000 eggs at the event for children of various ages to find.

The Mio Dummy Club will be hosting its Easter celebration April 20 at the Oscoda County Park. The guest of honor this year will be the Easter Bunny himself. In addition to the egg hunt there will be hot chocolate available as well. Dummy Club member Dwayne Roddy said while it’s a quick event, the club loves hosting it.

“It takes us an hour and a half to get the eggs out there, but it only takes them two minutes to find them all,” he said. “We do this every year, and we haven’t missed it yet.”

Roddy said in addition to the normal eggs planted in the field this year, there will also be some special silver eggs to be found. Those will be filled with silver dollars.

The Mio Baptist Church will also be hosting its Easter egg hunt April 21. The hunt will begin after the church’s Easter service and is open to children up to sixth grade. At this hunt there will be roughly 10 special golden eggs to find with a special surprise inside. Last year the event was held in the church gymnasium, but Pastor Jamie Lundquist said he hopes the church will be able to host the event outside.

Lundquist said his favorite part of the event is seeing the different types of energy from the various people who show up.

“When you have a local church, you look to the older people, and they bring the wisdom,” he said. “But the young people, they bring the exuberant energy and fun. I just love that youthful exuberance.”

Throughout the week leading up to Easter there will be multiple events held at Freedom Worship Center in Mio. In the days leading up to Easter there will be a Passover meal served and a Good Friday service. The Easter egg hunt will be April 20, and transportation to the event is available from the church. Finally there will be an Easter Sunday celebration service with a community meal April 21. For more information on the various events, contact the church at 989-808-5240.
