53-year-old St. Clair Shores man dies after kayak capsizes

MIO — A 53-year-old St. Clair Shores man passed away after his kayak capsized on the backwaters of Mio Pond.

Kenneth Tomaszewski of St. Clair Shores was found unresponsive near the Camp Ten Bridge around 2 p.m an Oscoda County Sheriff Department press release states. Prior to the capsizing, the man had been kayaking with his girlfriend's son.

A fisherman helped get Tomaszewski out of the water and onto the shore. Deputies from the sheriff department performed CPR on the man until paramedics from Oscoda County EMS arrived.

Undersheriff Edward Pokrzywnicki said the man was transported to Munson Healthcare Grayling Hospital. Pokrzywnicki confirmed Tomaszewski has passed away, but could not confirm the time.

The incident remains under investigation.
