Quilts of Valor to host first Christmas Bazaar

MIO — The community is invited to attend the first Quilts of Valor Christmas Bazaar with several holiday items for sale at the Mio Community Center Saturday, Dec. 1.

“We’ll have like 15 vendors,” Quilts of Valor member Cheri Stitt said. “It’s mostly Christmas items for people to come in and buy gifts for family members or friends.”

The Quilts of Valor, also called the MeoMio Stitchers, will also have its own table set up with quilts, table runners, tree skirts and more, she said.

The event will also have popcorn, coffee and a bake sale.

The event is meant to raise money for materials for group members, who make handmade quilts to honor veterans.

The most recent ceremony took place Oct. 2, in which Dorothy Loop, Al Chaney, John Basner, Ron Thomey and Leon Erbe received quilts.

Vietnam veteran George Ebling also received a quilt, which was brought to his home in Luzerne since he was unable to attend the ceremony.

The group, which was organized in January 2017, has held a total of four ceremonies so far, Stitt said.

The event will run from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the community center, located at 305 E. Ninth St. For more information, visit the MeoMio Stitchers on Facebook or call Stitt at 989-390-0797.
