Plant exchange to sprout up at community garden

MIO — Plant enthusiasts will have an opportunity to swap plants at the Oscoda County Community Garden’s Perennial, Plant & Seed Exchange event June 14.

“Just bring some things you have more than you need of,” said Kris Koehler, a coordinator for the event. “Then hopefully you’ll find something cool that someone else brought and you can trade.”

“I’ve got a whole bunch of daisies I’m getting too much of again,” Koehler said. “I’m hoping I can trade for something like lupine.”

Community garden coordinator Deb Nurse said she had done an event similar to this about seven years ago, but hadn’t done one since. Nurse said she hoped this year’s event would get people interested in gardening.

“I’m just really excited we can offer an intergenerational activity for all ages to come, learn and enjoy gardening with others,” Nurse said.

Nurse said she was expecting to see a variety of plants at the event including seeds, annuals and perennials. She said a garden club is also set to bring in plants for the event.

“I think it’s going to be a good mix,” Nurse said.

There is no charge to participate in the exchange and it will take place at the community garden from 4-6 p.m. The garden is near is located near 305 E. 9th St. For more information on the event, call Deb or Kris at 989-826-3208
