Oscoda County Library program celebrates Mardi Gras

MIO — The Oscoda County Library hosted its second Prime Time Reading event, which had a Mardi Gras theme, Feb. 28.

The free program works to get kids interested in reading and to promote discussions about books. This week’s theme was Mardi Gras since the event fell on Fat Tuesday. Story teller Jodee Money read Chair for My Mother by Vera B. Williams. Following the reading, kids and parents discussed the story with Money. Each time the attendees got involved in the discussion they were awarded beads. Free jambalaya, donuts and beverages were offered at the event.

Prime Time Reading is a six-week program through the Michigan Humanities Council. The library was awarded a three-year grant to host the program. This is the second year the library has featured the event, which kicked off Feb. 14.
