Norma Jean Nelson, 76, of Cedar Springs, formerly of Mio, passed away at Metron of Cedar Springs on Thursday, Oct. 12, 2017.

Norma was born in Detroit on Sept. 17, 1941, to J.W. and Effie (King) Allen. She married Monte Nelson on Feb. 4, 1967, in Hazel Park. The couple moved to Mio in 1969. Norma retired from Glen’s Market in Grayling, where she was a department manager. She was a member of the Mio Church of Christ. Norma was a four-time cancer survivor. She also volunteered for the Red Cross. Norma enjoyed sewing, quilting, crafting and spending time with her family. She also enjoyed camping with her husband and hosting country jamborees.

Norma is survived by her children, Denise (John) Besson of Trufant, Margaret (Scott) Taylor of Cedar Springs and Dennis (Stacey) Nelson of Swanton, Ohio; her “son” Kevin (Jessica) Guindon of Toledo, Ohio; four sisters; nine grandchildren, Megan, Christopher, Nicole, Bryan, Samantha, Mackenzie, Tiffani, Samantha and Jackson; and three great-grandchildren, Landon, Aaron and Sophia.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Monte; her grandson, Shane Matzke; one brother; and one sister.

Visitation will be Sunday, Oct. 15, 2017, from 4-8 p.m. at the Lashley Funeral Home, Mio, and also Monday, Oct. 16, from 10 a.m. until funeral services at 11 a.m. at Lashley Funeral Home with Mr. Dennis Nelson officiating. Interment will follow the services at Mentor Township Cemetery, Mio.
