No injuries in two semi truck collision that damaged Fairview Food Market

FAIRVIEW — Emergency personnel spent nearly the entire day June 5 working to clear the scene of an accident that caused no injuries but damaged a local business and left much of the community without power.

Oscoda County Sheriff Kevin Grace said around 10 a.m. two semi trucks collided at the intersection of M-72 and M-33 in Fairview. The collision caused one truck to jackknife and crash into Fairview Food Market.

Because of the location of the accident, size of the vehicles and the amount of damage to the building, M-72 eastbound was closed until approximately 5:30 p.m.

The accident involved a utility pole, and as a result approximately 1,658 customers were without power for the better part of the afternoon. However, after the scene was cleared Consumers Energy crews remained as they worked to restore power.

Grace said that while the road was mostly reopened in both east and west bound directions late Wednesday afternoon, drivers in the area should remain cautious as power crews did their job.

The accident is currently under investigation and Grace said the cause was unknown at the time.
