MSUE to host family STEM night at Fairview Area Schools

FAIRVIEW — The Oscoda County Michigan State University Extension is set to host a family STEM night at Fairview Area Schools March 14.

The evening is meant for families with students in kindergarten through fourth grade. It will feature hands-on science, technology, engineering and mathematics activities at various stations around the school. Hosting the evening will be MSUE science educator Tracy D’Augustino.

The event is free for anyone to attend, and is not subject to the annual fees associated with MSUE clubs. Oscoda County MSUE Coordinator Laurie Miller said the one-time event is a chance for students to figuratively dip their toes into a subject they may not be familiar with.

“Hopefully the students will discover the fun side of STEM,” Miller said. “It opens them up to being exposed to STEM because of the career choices that will be available to them later in life. It’s also a good way to get kids to have some more family time.”

Registration is required to participate in the event; however, Miller said if a family forgets to register that can be taken care of at the event. The evening will begin at 5:30 p.m. March 14 at Fairview Area Schools. For more information or to register, call Miller at either 989-826-2427 or 989-848-7048. Those numbers are for her offices at Mio AuSable and Fairview schools respectively.
