More than 25 percent of county without power

OSCODA COUNTY — Strong sustained winds and stronger gusts knocked out power to more than one-quarter of Oscoda County early Dec. 5.

The power outages also resulted in the closure of Kirtland Community College’s Roscommon campus.

“Gale force wind gusts will continue through tonight across all of the northern Michigan nearshore waters,” the National Weather Service Hazardous Weather Outlook report read. “A few gusts may reach storm force over far northern Lake Michigan this morning.”

According to the NWS, the area has experienced 24 mph sustained winds with gusts exceeding 30 mph.

Because of the widespread outages in Oscoda, Ogemaw, Crawford and Roscommon counties Munson Healthcare released a statement informing the public that the health system is contacting its customers with appointments today to reschedule.

Consumers Energy is reporting more than 25 percent, or approximately 1,636 of its customers are without power. Currently there are no estimations when the power will be restored.

Reports of how many Presque Isle Electric & Gas Co-Op customers without power were unavailable by 9 a.m. However, information will be reported when it's available.
