Mobilization set to begin on new county building

MIO — The bidding process for the new county building has officially closed, and Wolgast is in the process of reviewing those bids in order to allocate assignments.

Mobilization for the build was slated to begin July 16. This is the first step toward getting started and entails bringing equipment and materials to the build site.

Commissioner Pat Kelly said no groundbreaking event is planned.

“I personally don’t think we need a groundbreaking,” he said. “At this point we just need to get the building done.”

Kelly said Wolgast has received an additional funding boost of roughly $52,000 from the insurance company as part of code and historical funding. He said the county knew this funding boost was on the way, but did not know how much it would be for.

Commission Chairperson LaNita Olsen said as of now Wolgast is doing subcontractor reviews for the shell of the building. It is also working with the insurance company in order to find whether or not the electrical work will be fully covered, as the bids that came in were more expensive than the original estimate.
