Mio AuSable craft show expected to expand threefold from last year

MIO — This year’s annual Mio AuSable schools craft show April 14 is expected to be at least three times the size of last year’s show, according to organizer Raquel Rondo.

She said when she recently took over the planning responsibilities for the event, her goal was to drastically increase the scale of the event.

“Last year we had 19 vendors,” Rondo said. “This year I want to bring it back up. We’re going to have at least 65 vendors. Next year I want to have over 100. We’re trying to do a bunch of different things to make it bigger.”

Rondo said along with the vendors, the National Guard will be showing up with an inflatable obstacle course and there will be a silent auction.

This year the fundraiser will benefit the varsity baseball team and the sixth-grade class, both of which already have plans for the funds raised, Rondo said.

“This year the baseball team bought all new uniforms,” she said. “For the first time they’ve got seperate home and away uniforms. They’re going to be really good this year. … The sixth-grade class is raising money for when they’re older. It will add to their general fund, which will pay for prom, caps and gowns, and if they have enough money at the end, they could even get their yearbooks paid for. ”

Rondo said she has put an extensive amount of work into planning the event this year, and she thinks the payoff will be worth it.

“I’m really excited to see the community support this event. I’m excited to see how many people show up,” Rondo said. “I was born and raised here. I’ve been a Thunderbolt my whole life. I want this school to be successful.”

The Mio AuSable craft show fundraiser will run Saturday, April 14, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
