Jillian E. Scharping, 56, died tragically July 4, 2017, in New London, Wis.

Jillian was born June 1, 1961, to the late James and Bevereley (Fortier) La Pointe in Saginaw, and raised by Bevereley and stepfather, Leonard Fisher. She grew up there, attended the local schools and graduated from Bridgeport High School. Jillian settled in the Stevens Point, Wis. area where she attended Mid-State Technical College, focusing on marketing, business and human relations.

Jillian was inducted into the U.S. Marine Corps in 1986 and had previously served in the U.S. Army for two years and six months. During her time of service she received a Good Conduct Medal and a Rifle Expert Badge. Jillian was discharged in 1988.

Survivors include wife, Jean Scharping; children, Eric Wichert, Jennifer Johnson (family), Shannon McLendon and stepson, Marcus (Katherine) Scharping; grandchildren, Desiree, Connor, Xander, Trinity, Ambrose, Alexander and McAllister; siblings, Laurna La Pointe of Green Bay, Wis., Darlene La Pointe of Bridgeport and Eddie (Jessica) La Pointe of Stevens Point, Wis.; nephew, Austin, and other numerous nieces and nephews; numerous cousins; and many close friends that were considered family.

Jillian will be remembered for the love shared with family, especially her grandchildren. In her spare time, she enjoyed the beauty nature had to offer, the creativity of woodworking, the solitude of fishing and cultivating and nurturing flowers. Car and motorcycle rides were also a favorite, as she enjoyed the exhilaration of the open road.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 13, 2017, at Boston Funeral Home in Stevens Point, Wis. Interment will take place in the Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
