James R. Willett

Died Sept. 3, 2018


James Raymond Willett, 89, passed away peacefully Monday, Sept. 3, 2018, at his home surrounded by his family in Charlevoix.

James was born Oct. 12, 1928, in Detroit to Coy and Agnes Willett. He lived in Detroit until his family moved to Mio in 1944, where he lived until he and his wife retired and moved to Curtis in the UP in 2001. James was a veteran of the Korean War, after graduating from Mio High School. His passions were woodworking, fishing and hiking in the Porcupine Mountains.

James married Roberta Sherwood on Feb. 6, 1954. She survives him, along with two sons, Gregg (Tina) Willett of California and Mark (Leslie) Willett of Charlevoix; five grandchildren, Gregg Jr., Erin, Kurtis, Eric and Kendra; and seven great-grandchildren, Alayna, Jillian, Kyle, Kaden and Phoenix, Cali and Hudson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Jerry; and his sister, Mary.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be scheduled in the future. These arrangements were handled by Lashley Funeral Home, Mio.
