James B. Fields, 90, of Luzerne passed away at The Horizon Senior Living center in St. Helen on Friday, Aug. 4, 2017.

James was born in Edo, Ky., on Oct. 25, 1926, to Grover and Minnie (Slone) Fields. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Upon returning home, he worked for a couple of years in the coal mines in Kentucky, until moving to Detroit. James worked for GM Gear & Axle of Hamtramck, retiring as a supervisor at age 55 in 1982. He and his wife Maxie retired to Luzerne in 1982. James was a Mason in Wayne, and was also a member of the Luzerne American Legion Post 162. He enjoyed singing, playing guitar, nature, fishing and riding motorcycles.

James is survived by his wife, Maxie of Luzerne; his children, Benita Kay Fields and Jeffery James Fields, both of Luzerne; five grandchildren, Ronnie Lewis Fields Jr., Jason Robert Smith, Heather Marie Essahaki, Brandon Michael Smith and Cody James Fields; five great-grandchildren; and his beloved dog, Ezio.

James was preceded in death by his parents; his sons, Larry David Fields and Ronnie Lewis Fields; seven sisters; and three brothers.

Visitation was Monday, Aug. 7, 2017, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Lashley Funeral Home, Mio, with funeral services at 3 p.m. with Chaplain Randy Brokaw officiating. Military honors will be offered by the Luzerne American Legion Post 162. In accordance with his wishes, cremation will follow the services.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Luzerne American Legion Post 162.
