Hiring committee for new EMS director formed

MIO — The Oscoda County Board of Commissioners has established who will be a part of the hiring committee that will decide on who will be the county’s new Emergency Medical Services director.

The decision was made at the Nov. 27 commissioners meeting. The board will consist of current commission Chairperson LaNita Olsen, future Commissioners Chuck Varner and Jackie Bondar and Sheriff Kevin Grace.

They’ll meet starting Dec. 5 to review applications in order to begin interviews in the following days. Olsen said she hopes to have a decision made by the Dec. 11 commissioners meeting in order to hire someone before the new year.

At the meeting the commissioners mentioned there had been only a single application turned in for the position. Despite that, Olsen said she believes there will be more applications coming in soon as she has personally talked to people who said they would be interested in the position.

The qualifications the county is asking for are an associate degree in EMS or a related field, and EMS management experience with 10 years as a licensed paramedic, preferably in Michigan. Resumes will be accepted until Dec. 4 at 4 p.m.
