Forest fire jumps I-75 median closing traffic for hours


OSCODA COUNTY — A forest fire jumped the I-75 median going east roughly one mile south of the US127 and I-75 junction south of Grayling May 1.

Michigan State Police Officer Stinton said as of roughly 5:00 p.m. firefighters were still trying to get the situation under control. As of 5:30 police began turning around those stopped along I-75. They were redirected down 127.

One fire truck, one refueling tank and a bulldozer were seen along I-75. An airplane was flying around the area providing visual support. It did not deliver water.

As of 6:32 p.m. the fire was still active. One lane each going north and south are open.
