Commissioners name parks and recreation advisory committee members

MIO — The county board of commissioners has chosen the members who will serve on the parks and recreation advisory committee.

The decision was announced at the March 12 commissioners meeting. The committee will consist of Commissioners Jackie Bondar and Kyle Yoder and will also include local residents Ryan Wycoff and Linda Jageillo and Planning Commissioner Chairman Rob Murphy. Yoder said all of the appointed committee members were highly spoke of by residents and employees of the county.

In a previous interview with the Herald, Yoder said this would be a way for the county government to better utilize its natural resources.

“A major reason people want to live in Oscoda County is the opportunity for outdoor recreation,” he said. “I know it’s one reason why I like to live here.”

Bondar said the committee will mainly focus on finding ways to provide new opportunities for residents and visitors who take advantage of the county park and campground.

While the committee will be tasked with gathering information on how to improve the county’s recreation opportunities, it will not have the power to take action. Yoder said that responsibility will remain with the board of commissioners.

During public comment one local property owner said he would like to see more access to trails for snowmobiling and off-road vehicles.

The newly formed committee is voluntary, and is not subject to compensation by the county.
