Clothing Closet to dress those in need

COMINS –– For those in the area with no clothing to wear to an interview, new job or special event, the Comins Community Church has a full supply of dress and business casual clothes at no charge.

For men, the Clothing Closet offers suits and ties, dress shirts and slacks, casual shirts, khakis, and dress shoes, and for women there are dress suits, dresses, skirts, and casual work and business wear as well as dress pants and shoes. The closet boasts diverse dress clothing with a wide variety of sizes, styles and colors.

Pastor Kevin Salsbury said the church had been considering opening something like this for quite some time, but officially decided about two years ago that it would begin the project.

“Once we decided to do it, the donations came in quite quickly,” he said. “It’s a different clothing spot because we’re trying to have clothes in good shape and not casual clothes.”

Salsbury said the goal was to let people know the Clothing Closet is available at no expense and to get the word out to the community and those who need clothing for any type of occasion in which they would need a step above casual clothes. He said the clothes so far have been donated from churches around the area and are all in great condition.

“I think it feels really good to do it,” he said. “I just wish more people would take advantage of it. I’ve had several people call, who I felt really, truly had need for clothing, and they for whatever reason weren’t able to get out to Comins to get to the closet.”

If you have a need in your life for this type of clothing and are interested in visiting the Clothing Closet, contact the Comins Community Church at 989-848-2909 to arrange a date and time that will work for you to come and pick out those items you need.
