Carin Michelle DuVerney, 50, passed from this life March 12, 2018, at her home in Opelika, Ala.

She was born in Flint April 15, 1967, the oldest of three children born to Dale and Jean DuVerney of Mio. Carin worked in health care most of her life. She spent many years working the emergency department at Grayling Mercy Hospital. She also worked at Alpena General Hospital for a number of years. She was educated at Kirtland Community College, receiving her LPN license in 2010. Carin was a dedicated servant to our nation’s war fighters, working at Martin Army Community Hospital in Fort Benning, Ga., for the past four years. Before that she served the soldiers of Michigan’s National Guard at Camp Grayling. She was compassionate and always went above and beyond to make sure her soldiers knew she cared. She appreciated the sacrifices they make, never letting them know the sacrifices she made being away from her family in Michigan to serve them.

Carin is survived by her mother and father, Jean and Dale DuVerney of Mio; her children, Michael (Candra) Sanford of Houghton and Katie (Dan McHugh) Sanford of Grand Rapids; her two grandchildren, Eleanor (daughter of Katie and Dan) and Alexander (son of Michael and Candra); her two siblings, Dale (Jerrie) DuVerney of Rogers City and Barb (Travis) Milne of Luzerne; and fiance Jeff Gradwell.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Lashley Funeral Home, Mio.
