OSCODA COUNTY — The body of Michelle Kukulski of Grayling, who has been missing since Dec. 7, was found by a Michigan State Police dog off of a trail road in Oscoda County the morning of Thursday, Dec. 14. Kukulski, 46, is the alleged victim of murder.

“She was last seen leaving a residence in Grayling Township driving a 2009 light blue Chrysler Town and Country …” a Crawford County Sheriff’s Department news release states. “She never arrived at the intended location and when family members started looking for her it was discovered that no one had heard from her since the 7th.”

Michigan State Police K-9 units searched the last known location pinpointed by her cell phone signal for several hours and officers of the sheriff’s department canvassed the area.

The investigation went from a missing persons case to an involuntary missing case with suspicion of foul play after Kukulski’s van was found in Clarkston and blood was located in the interior of the vehicle, according to Crawford County Undersheriff Shawn Kraycs.

Kraycs said after an ongoing investigation that included interviewing persons of interest, the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department arrested Grayling Township resident John O’Connor.

“On December 14 we made an arrest and charged him with open murder,” Kraycs said.

According to Crawford County Sheriff’s Department, O’Connor was the last person to see Kukulski alive.

“Kukulski went to O’Connor’s residence on Chase Bridge Road in Grayling Township on Dec. 7, 2017 around noon to pick up some belongings,” the news release states. “Evidence indicates there was a struggle which ended in the death of Kukulski.”

The two had carried on a relationship for three decades but had recently become estranged.
