Allen Clarence Walz, 87, passed away peacefully Friday, June 15, 2018, at his home in West Branch. Al was a resident of West Branch for the past three years, previously of Fairview.

He was born March 10, 1931, in Detroit to Oscar and Myrtle Walz. Al was a faithful charter member and trustee of the Calvary Baptist Church in Mio. He truly enjoyed going to church and helped in any way possible. Al worked as a butcher and was the head of the meat department at the A&P grocery store in Alpena and retired in the early 1970s. After retirement, he started his own taxidermy business, and later on he became a partner and eventually owner of Hilde Taxidermy in Clarkson, specializing in African safari mounts and deer heads. Al also enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.

Allen is survived by his loving wife, Jane Walz of West Branch; son, Karl (Kim) Walz of Ossineke; daughter, Vicki (AJ) Brookshear of Weidman; son, Rick Spencer of Arizona; and son, Jason (Colleen) Spencer of West Branch. Also surviving are his 12 grandchildren, Steven, Amanda, Kylie, Ricki Lynn, Jamie, Ashley, Jeff, Cory, Zackery, Martha, Leighann and Jeremy; 16 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Rod and Dexter.

He was preceded in death by sons, Mike and Jeff; sisters, Mary, Evelyn and Irene; brothers, Lee and Bud; and granddaughter, Kaitlyn Rose.

A memorial luncheon service is scheduled for Saturday, June 23, 2018, at noon at the Calvary Baptist Church, 825 E. Miller Rd., Mio. Inurnment will follow at the Selkirk cemetery in West Branch at 4 p.m. Pastor John Manning will officiate.
