MIO — The Mio AuSable varsity football team organized a benefit dinner and silent auction for U.S. Army Sgt. Ben Eberle, a 2005 Mio graduate who was injured in combat in November while serving in Afghanistan. According to Mio AuSable Middle School-High School Principal Jim Gendernalik, the event raised more than $9,000, which will go directly to Eberle and his wife for expenses. more
COMINS — The Comins Eagles welcomed Santa and Mrs. Claus to the Eagles Hall on Saturday, Dec. 10, for a Christmas party. According to Olga Kingery, vice president of the Comins Eagles Women's Auxiliary, each child attending the party got to visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus, and received a toy, a piece of fruit, and a lollipop. more
MIO — The Mio Moose Lodge presented its annual Christmas party on Saturday, Dec. 10. According to event chairperson Kathy Hodge, the Mio Moose have organized the party for at least 25 years. more
FAIRVIEW — Several Fairview-area businesses kept their shops open past 5 p.m., as they organized special sales as a way of saying thank you to their customers for keeping them in business. more
LEWISTON — Guests braved the cold temperatures to sing Christmas carols on Friday, Dec. 2, as the Lewiston Lioness-Lions Club hosted a tree lighting ceremony outside the Lewiston Area Chamber of Commerce. Santa Claus made an appearance at the ceremony and visited with children inside the Albert Township Hall following the ceremony. more
MIO — Several Christmas activities took place in downtown Mio on Saturday, Nov. 26. Santa and Mrs. Claus visited American Physical Therapy in Mio to greet local children who wanted to share their Christmas lists. A holiday light parade took place in the evening in downtown Mio, followed by a 4-H Christmas auction at the Mio Community Center. more
LEWISTON — The Lewiston Area Chamber of Commerce hosted a pre-dedication ceremony for the LaRose Holiday Light Display on Friday, Nov. 25. The ceremony took place on the north side of County Road 612, next to Lewiston ACE Hardware. more
MIO — Mio AuSable students paid a visit this week to the school's Media Center for its annual Book Fair. The fair began on Thursday, Nov. 17, and was scheduled to last until Wednesday, Nov. 23. more
FAIRVIEW — Fairview students and staff honored local veterans with a turkey dinner on Wednesday, Nov. 9, in the Fairview school's Multipurpose Room. Following the dinner, Fairview students presented a program to honor the veterans. more
MIO — The Woodland Lodge was the site for the Chamber of Commerce for Oscoda County's Fall Wine Tasting and Silent Auction on Saturday, Nov. 5. The event featured wines from wineries in Rose City, Traverse City, and Alpena, as well as hors d'oeuvres. Several baskets of items were also up for bid in a silent auction. more
